Too Much Information in the Age of SEO

It cannot be denied that we hit the information age not long ago, but some are debating if we’ve hit the age of too much information. Data can be described as basically anything, which means it feels like everything, which means trying to discover what you want to know about on the Internet can sometimes feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a hard working turbo information finder contraption that could help us get to the content we need with little or no fuss? Supposedly, this is what search engines are trying to do. With simple questions, they usually get the answers just right. But how do you direct them to find your business or blog?

Search engines have two jobs on the Internet; one is to sift through and catalog a zillion types of media, images, documents, pages, files, news, gossip, videos and anything else you can think of in the vast network of the world wide web. The other job search engines have is seeking answers to questions from users like you and I, and the search engine will do that by checking what it has gathered from its constant sifting, and offer up the most relevant findings it can offer.  When it gives you the findings, it will also order them in what the search engine (through following a complex set of algorithms and intricate mathematical equations) deems most useful to your query.

The search engine decides what is relevant by noticing what is the most popular on the web. It’s like a line outside of a store, if over 500 people are waiting outside for whatever’s inside, it must be good! It sounds simple, but seriously, it’s honestly a modern miracle. Great whirling machines as large as refrigerators all over the world hold tanks and tanks of information just waiting for someone to ask something.

With all these complicated information-finding networks in place,  if you’re going to run a business via the Internet, it’s a good idea to invest in the process of creating opportunities for search engines to notice your products or services. By learning, understanding and implementing certain factors that guide search engines toward your site, you are taking part in SEO or search engine optimization. Bulletproof Digital can boost your business by giving you the tools you need to find success.

The Role of Search Marketers in Sales

As a search marketer, you may not have thought about how much control you have over various aspects of your company’s marketing strategy.  Practically, however, you are in the driver’s seat.  You sell your creativity through your use of strategies with one goal in mind—to get more customers into the fold.  The better you are at this, the more credibility you have as a search marketer.  However, you cannot force customers to buy any more than you can force people to read your ads.

Instead, you persuade readers to buy based on the strategies you choose.  You hand off the customer to sales people who receive your product–a customer primed to buy based on what you have shown them.

Understanding your role in the entire sales process is key to doing your job well and having a ROI that stands up to scrutiny. [Read more…] about The Role of Search Marketers in Sales

Bending to the Winds of Google Change

According to Matt Cutts, we will all be “jarring and julting for a while” as Google continues to update its SEO standards. Rank may be the holy grail of SEO development, but it continues to be just as elusive as Arthur’s golden cup for many.  Even if we do find it, there is no guarantee we can keep it.

In this arena, it pays to extract value from every single click.   Clicks become visitors, visitors become customers, and customers become loyal patrons.  By optimizing our online advertising strategy, we put work in on the front end to achieve the eventual rewards. Google Algorithm Updates for Penguin

Just talking about Penguin updates gives some people a frightened look these days, ever since the one-two shot with Panda and Penguin updates in 2011 and 2012.  Nobody knows for sure exactly which algorithms Google changed, but the effects are clear for anyone who cares to look.  Like Pluto, we establish the existence of Penguin’s new algorithms not because we have seen them but because of the effect on the “orbits” of certain types of sites.  Study the sites that were slapped by Penguin and you have the basis for the new algorithm, right?

To a certain extent, this is true.  We know that Penguin targets websites that have overused anchor text or overused sitewide links.  On the other hand, there are things about Penguin that remain undiscovered.  How does it value content?  Does it have the capability to recognize semantic relationships?  These questions are still being bandied about.  In the meantime, there are things you can do to Penguin-proof your website. Adding Authorship Tagging and Images Requires Proper Markup

Google has long supported the ability for authors to add authorship tagging to web pages to aid in author recognition and add interest to your search results.  Unfortunately, website managers do not always use this feature to its full ability. Only one out of five results have an authorship image.  How can you ensure that you are part of this twenty percent?

David Harry has published his findings on the significance of markup in author recognition.  He found that even though some of the pages were not using proper markup techniques, they were still being shown with authorship images.  How can this happen? What Exactly is SEO

Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the last five years, you’ve probably heard the term SEO thrown around a lot in reference to creating website traffic. SEO, which stands for search engine optimization, is the process of optimizing your website in order to bring traffic to you.  When done properly, SEO should help your website to be in the top rankings for searches conducted using relevant search keywords. Of course, successful SEO isn’t as simple as it may seem.

You see, unless someone specifically knows the name of your business, they will not be typing “Frank’s Tires” into the search engine.  They don’t have any idea “Frank’s Tires” is a business that they could call to fix their flat tire.  This potential customer is going to use a keyword to help them locate quality websites connected to what they are searching for.

So, if customer X is looking for a flat tire repair service, they may search for “flat tire repair” with their location.
What all of this means is that you need your website to pop up when they search for those ‘keywords‘.  You need to make sure that your website is deemed relevant to the average web surfer, which is a decision that the search engines make.

There are really four factors that make up essential SEO and each of these four categories can be broken down further into sub-categories.  The four main categories that need you need to be aware of are: on-page ranking issues, off-page ranking issues, violations, and blocking.  You cannot expect only to think about one or two of these categories. And there’s no single tried-and-true way to conquer the SEO pyramid.

Creating a successful SEO strategy requires a careful process of combining these factors, getting them to work together, and ensuring that they are high quality.  If you have a thousand links on your site, this can boost your rankings, but if none of them actually work, this could count against you.  When it comes to your website, you don’t want to make mistakes that could cost you business.

Working with a company that can create the perfect SEO combination is going to be important to helping you grow.  You don’t have to look any further than Bulletproof Digital to find that perfect balance between good SEO and being a dependable resource online.
